Note: This record I copied from the tombstones on Tuesday
22 Sep 1903. The stone Church that used to stand in this graveyard
was torn down and taken away all but one end, which is still
standing.
John Etter says this church was built in 1838, John Erb who
formerlyowned the Hertzler Farm, gave the ground. Rev.
John
Erb was the congregations Minister. A Mr. Herr, father of
the Herr of Lutztown and a Mumma from Dauphin County were
active. Christian Bomberger, who lived at Rife's School House
also preached. Melcher Brenneman and Abram Witmer's father
also gave liberally. J. Zeamer
The church was Erbs Mennonite Meeting House, also Known as
Stone Mennonite Meeting House located on the Lisburn Road
So. Middleton Twp., 3 miles east of Carlisle, PA. Rev. John
Erb was the first Minister. Rev. Christian Herr of Boiling Springs,
Rev. Jacob Herr of Lutztown, Rev. Henry Weber of
Mechanicsburg all served as Ministers.
Bishop John Mumma of Dauphin County and Bishop Christian
Bomberger of Monroe Twp were the Bishops served
this church. The deed for the property was issued to the Trustees
Jacob Neasley and Abraham Hartzler-Hertzler of Hickorytown.
In the late 1800's there were the three Mennonite Congregations
within a few miles of each other; Erb's, Herr's Church at Boiling
Springs, Cocklin's Church in Monroe Twp. In 1885,
these congergations joined together and built the Churchtown
Mennonite Chrch at Village of Churchtown in Monroe Twp.
